Though the automatic garage door was invented almost a century ago, the convenience of it cannot be understated. The smart home revolution has added a whole new degree of accessibility to garages, with entrance being granted via apps or voice commands, and making life that much easier.
Google has now added support for smart garage door controls within the Google Home app, making things much easier for smart home users like you.
The New Google Home App and Update
Google has done a substantial overhaul of their popular Google Home app as the company integrates Matter. The update is out now, so if you haven’t updated your app, go ahead and do that. You’ll be pleased to find a much improved interface and functionality.
Prior to this update, smart garage door openers were seen in the Google Home app, though they could only be opened and closed via Google Assistant voice commands. The update adds the ability to do this directly through the app itself, rather than just seeing the device in the app.
The Google Home update for garage door openers is simplistic, with a vertical, pill-shaped image split down the middle, and the option to open the garage door on the top and close it on the bottom.
What Works With It?
Most major players are supporting the app, and products from Tailwind, Nexx, and Chamberlain work with the update. It is likely more will be added over time.
