Alright, let’s talk sound. This bulb comes with not one, but two 3 watt JBL® speakers. What this means is very clean, undistorted sound at peak volumes. I ran my iPhone’s music through this bulb and found it to be not only louder but it sounds much better than when just using the iPhone speakers. The audio remains clean and undistorted due to built in protection in the software.
As I will discuss later on, this bulb is controlled via bluetooth through the free app on your smartphone; this includes volume control. You can change the volume on the bulb from the app using the plus and minus buttons but as the you raise the volume too high you’ll hit a limit and hear an audible ding. This protects against overdriving the speaker input and thus distorting the sound which will damage the speaker.

The set of speakers are each 1.07” which allows for a dynamic frequency range reproducing frequencies as low as 260Hz. What this means in a practical sense is that this bulb is louder and sounds more full than my iPhone 6. Speaking of sounding full, the Pulse Solo plays stereo from just one bulb. The big brother, the Pulse plays the left mono track on one bulb and a right mono track on the other which means you’d need two bulbs in one room for full stereo; not with the Pulse Solo! The Pulse Solo plays both tracks, each with its dedicated loudspeaker creating full stereo enough to comfortably fill a room.
If you’re looking to run two Pulse Solos to create a more dynamic stereo effect or fill larger rooms (with light and/or sound) then you’re better off with the Pulse. The Pulse Solo is just that, solo, whereas the Pulse is much more dynamic in it’s configuration flexibility. You’ll be able to set up two or more bulbs running together, playing the same tunes and controlled all from the free app. You’ll even link up another interesting SengLED product, the Pulse Amp, which sends your bluetooth music signal to your home stereo or home theater subwoofer. If that’s something you’d like to do, then consider the Pulse.
However, if you just want to light one room, have no need for massive bass and just want something you can unbox and have music playing within 5 minutes, then the Pulse Solo is perfect.
