Wink Review – Connecting your devices, Zwave Locks and switches
After I had all the lights connected. It was time to try some Zwave devices. I connected my Schlage Camelot Connect Smart Lock. As with setup and the light bulbs, it was all wizard driven. The great part that I really enjoyed was that the wizard in the Wink App has all the information you need to be successful.

Connecting the lock was a little more involved. There is a security code and some pressing of keys and flashing lights on the locks keypad. I was surprised again it was all in the Wink app, step by step on what I needed to do to connect the lock. Even pictures to show where I could find the setup codes I needed to add the lock to my Wink hub.
Once installed I had full control over my new lock. I was able to create codes, set the alarm, lock and unlock. As well as check the battery status. Below you can see the lock interface in the Wink app. As well as screen shots of the getting started screens that give you a quick tutorial on how to control the lock and find the advanced features in the app.
Schlage doesn’t make a stand alone app for their locks, so it’s great to find complete support for all the features in the Wink app.
After success with the Lock, I wanted to install my AEON labs smart switches, with built in energy monitor. They were not listed as a supported product in the app.
There are however generic Zwave devices listed in the Wink app. In the light section I found Zwave switch. I followed the instructions included with the switches and followed the wizard. They connected just as the other devices had. I did not have access to the energy monitor, just the switch functionality. I was a little bummed about that, but I was setting it up as a generic switch. How was Wink supposed to know there was an energy monitor in there also.
Perhaps as this technology matures, there will be a better discovery method for supported commands and features. Energy monitor aside, it was up and running and I was shutting the lights off and on at will.
