The Zipato RGB+W Light Bulb – Real Experience
I have two Zipato bulbs I purchased on Amazon. I have used them in multiple locations in my home (aka our Dream Home project). It should be noted that I purchased these before I established contact with the folks at Zipato, a Chinese manufacturer
I will describe how they worked out lighting various places. The lights have been in operation on a daily basis for more than six months, using two different Z-Wave controllers.
The Zipato Real World Experiences:
1. Tiffany Lamp in Office/Landing area: This light comes on every evening 10 minutes before dusk and turns off after 2am. The timings were set using the SmartThings Hub app, and before that, the Nexia website when using their hub.
The Zipato typically does a soft blue-green each evening, but sometimes other colors chosen on a whim. The goal is to provide low level lighting in the evening, as we move around between upstairs rooms. Even with the tiffany lamp being a fairly dark cover, for my purposes, about 30-40% brightness is all I typically use. For the moment (no motion sensors yet) it runs continuously for 8 hours, give or take (depending on when the sunset is.)
There are times, however, where I’ve used the Zipato to provide bright white there, as the room doubles as an office area. The room has other lighting I normally use, but the Zipato cranked up to full power using the cool white LED – even hiding under the tiffany cover, puts out impressive work lighting. If the light was on the desk, only a fraction of its maximumwhite would be needed to function as a bright desk lamp.
