Black and Decker Logo

Black and Decker has entered the robotic vacuum playing field, its new Smartech robotic vacuum competing with top names like iRobot, Roomba and Neato. Its features rival the most recent developments from these opposing companies, but for near-half the price. Robotic vacuums used to be a pricey alternative to the manual push-and-pull dinosaur models seen in most homes across the nation. Now you can enjoy the bliss of automated vacuuming for a mere $400. This is the top-of-the-line price for the Smartech bot, which contains in its technology a host of great features.

Smartech Bot Features

Smartech Bot AppLike recent models from other brands, the Smartech bot can be controlled through a rather good-looking smartphone app, allowing you to steer the robotic vacuum and set cleaning schedules. Being able to set schedules on such a modestly priced robotic vacuum is phenomenal. It is no longer necessary to even know where your vacuum is. Simply set your schedule and you’re done. You can program the Smartech bot to vacuum only on Mondays, or several times during the week – whatever tickles your fancy. Through the app, you can name your vacuum something fun – like “Rosie” – or be dull and leave it as is.

As the Smartech robotic vacuum rolls over carpet into a room with hardwood floors, it senses the change and automatically switches modes. It has 90 minutes of battery life and works with both iOS and Android phones, opening accessibility up to the masses, rather than a select group of people. Nice. The Smartech bot has a HEPA filter and a 1-liter dust bin, allowing the vacuum to cover a good amount of space before you need to dump the bin. There are three cleaning modes: Auto, Quick and Spot Clean. My personal favorite feature is the anti-tangle bristles – no more ripping out chunks of wound-up hair and wondering why you shed so much. You can also change the color of the LED light on top of the device, as an added bonus.

Availability and Pricing

The Smartech bot is not yet available for purchase, but will be later in 2017 at www.smartech.blackanddecker.com/ for $400. It is likely that the robotic vacuum will be sold at stores like Walmart, Target, on Amazon.com, or other places where Black and Decker vacuum cleaners are already sold. This is unconfirmed, however, so we will have to wait in anticipation for Black and Decker to release more information.
