The Aurora Nanoleaf Rhythm Module is made by Nanoleaf and is an add-on to their flagship product, the Nanoleaf Light Panels. The Rhythm Module includes sound sensors that enable your Nanoleaf lights to dance to the music you are listening to, turning any wall into a 21st century music visualizer. The rhythm module is equally at home with a movie, video game or another form of multimedia entertainment, and adds another level of visual impact and immersion.
Controlling and customizing your Rhythm is done with ease through a tab nestled within the Nanoleaf app. For those that are unfamiliar with the app, it is very simple to master and available for both iOS and Android. The Rhythm tab is equally well designed to enable you to quickly take advantage of the new functionality. To say I am hooked is an understatement. After discovering the capabilities of the Rhythm Module and integration with the app, I use it on a daily basis.
The Aurora Nanoleaf Rhythm Module is often bundled with the Nanoleaf Light Panels; however, the question I’ll seek to answer throughout the course of this review is, does the Rhythm module warrant an upgrade if you already own the Nanoleaf? Or, if you are new to the Nanoleaf family, should you opt for the bundle and include the Nanoleaf Rhythm Upgrade Module?
The Nanoleaf Light Panels (previously known as the Nanoleaf Aurora) was released in 2016, with the Rhythm Module added in the summer of 2017. With their growing suite of products and extensions, the Rhythm Module caught my eye as a must-have addition to an apartment already decked out with Nanoleaf Light panels and a fair number of Philips Hue bulbs. While my girlfriend may disagree, I say, the more color, the better!
In short, I could not imagine my Nanoleaf lights without the Rhythm module. It truly feels like a piece of “must have” hardware and functionality that every Nanoleaf Light Panel should have. I’m glad to see that most new Nanoleaf Light Panels include the rhythm module, as it truly delivers on its promise of “transforming your lighting display into an immersive symphony of sight and sound.” The built-in audio sensors have little to no delay on when the noise is created and picked up to when the lights respond in spectacular fashion.
For those who have the Nanoleaf Light Panels, $49.99 may seem a little steep for the add-on, but is truly worth the investment. The Rhythm module also has an abundance of customizable options within the app. I’ll dive deeper into this below, but to illustrate my point, there are 12 different “Motion” options to choose from that dictate how your lights will react to sound, and over 16.7 million color combinations to play with.
Highlights
The Rhythm Module comes nestled in a simple yet colorful square box. The module itself is protected between cardboard packaging with a small pamphlet to outline the 30 second installation and basic functionally.
