Samsung’s The Wall has been shown for several years now at shows, originally as a prototype technology display. It fits into a relatively new category that is being referred to as “Resimercial.” – A product that is sold not just in commercial settings but also into high end residential. The name – The Wall – implies the size, and the size is way larger than traditional LED/LCD TVs. The technology behind Samsung’s Wall is MicroLED.
More Sizes of The Wall Now Available
Samsung keeps expanding the number of sizes for The Wall. Originally the low res version (1080p), started at 110” diagonal, but now starts as low as 75” and 88” diagonal. Small units are fine, but, the real action is the larger sizes: The 146” is probably the most iconic. Check out this 146” in a bedroom. (I’m so jealous!). But a 219” or a 291”? We’re going way beyond amazing. I’ve been following The Wall’s development, and models for at least 4 years now.

The Bottom Line turns out to be that incredibly large, with incredibly awesome picture quality, is pretty expensive. Compared to OLED TVs/displays which tend to be extremely thin, these Samsung panels, (while still pretty thin) aren’t as thin as the typical OLED TV. But, with the huge sizes, even more dynamic image and amazing color – will anyone care?
Perhaps I can talk Samsung into loaning me the 146” for a full, multi-year review… Sadly – not likely…

The Bottom Line: Samsung’s The Wall – In all of its forms
Samsung’s The Wall, along with competition from LG, Sony, and Planar (some others too.)
represent a spectacular step up in what is available in great displays. Sure OLED has been rocking the world for over 10 years. As with OLED, expect pricing to plummet over time. Who kmows, we just might be able to buy a 146” 4K The Wall for $25,000 or $50,000 in just a few more years (or more). But, hey, for those that can afford, that’s a huge drop from the current quarter million dollar advertised price.

Just remember that the pixel size – 0.8mm (or roughly 1/30 of an inch), is still fairly large compared to OLED, as proven by the fact that you can buy OLED’s with 4K resolution from smaller than 55” but you need 146” diagonal for a The Wall to be true 4K… Don’t expect invisible pixels if you are standing 4-5 feet from a 219” The Wall while the pixels would be invisible at the same distance from an LG 97” OLED TV (the largest out there right now).
The very bottom line: Most of us will not be able to afford a large Micro-LED display like these, but, that doesn’t mean we won’t be jealous of anyone who can afford one.
Incredible picture quality rivalling OLED is now available in huge sizes. If only I could afford… -art
