LIFX has definitely put some real performance into their Color 1000 BR30 flood lights. Certainly we, or whomever we contract to help automate – smarten up, our homes, will have to make some choices regarding costs, and perhaps which makes more sense smart bulbs that support Wifi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave or other options.
But, that’s like trying to decide what stereo, or satellite service, or whether you want leather seats. First there’s performance – does the car have enough seats for your family? Will it do well on icy roads if you live where the weather gets real dicey? Is it comfortable? Does it meet your minimum demands for acceleration, braking, cornering?
Well, I can tell you, this bulb’s got some game, when it comes to performance. Being a huge fan of color lighting, I’ve been following smart lighting for probably 5 plus years. I designed a couple of discos lighting back in the late ’70’s early ’80s (lots of color lights and DMX controllers), so I’m definitely “into it.”
As I see it, the first three important performance aspects for any color light are – Brightness, Color Palette, and the ability to also do a very good white.
Art's been reviewing high tech products and editing their reviews for 15 years. He launched his first website presenting solutions.com (sold in 2003) in early 1995 when there were only a few thousand .coms. Art's goal is to provide in-depth reviews on the latest and hottest products that fit into the Smart Home, aka Home Automation, as well as insightful articles to educate people into what's available, what makes the most sense, and where the market is going, so people can better plan, and implement their goals for energy efficient, convenient, and downright "cool" capabilities.
